I am becoming very frustrated by our discussions of podcasts, vodcasts, moos, muds, etc. Do I think they would be beneficial to my students? YES. Will the funding ever be there for proper training of teachers, equipment purchase, etc? NO. At least not in my school. We aren't even able to sign up for a day in the computer lab because it is reserved for "bubble students" that could pass the CRCT with a little more help from the super-expensive computer software that our county bought to help us meet AYP and get out of needs improvement status. Why am I learning about these things? My students can not REALLY benefit. One classroom computer ends up frustrating the students to the point of not paying attention. They want and deserve hands-on experience. When will public education get out of the 20th century and start issuing laptops to ALL students? What have been the results on student performance for the schools that did issue laptops to all of their students?

Geeze, it's terrible that your school has reserved the computer lab for "tutoring" the CRCT only.

Maybe we should brainstorm some ways to get grants for your classroom. There are always some out there for teachers in K-12 only!

I have had friends apply for and receive grants at other schools. However, when they change classrooms- sometimes against their will, or schools, they must leave their efforts behind. My school has a wireless laptop lab, but it is very stressful to me to check them out with no support. In the computer labs, there is a paraprofessional who can assist the students and teacher with any questions.
